- I would like to make this point again: infocal is now up for telnet, so the
- copy of the SoC I put on soda is now obsolete. We need to work on other
- issues. The Student Phone Directory is one I would like to attack now.
- This will be tough, although the information itself is even more public than
- the SoC was. I'm going to try a few possible routes to getting that. I
- will probably need to do some legal manoevering. I will keep you posted
- about what's hapening, where to send letters to, etc.
-
- And the point about TeleBears is excellent. Currently, adding an extra
- TeleBears "port" is expensive and difficult. Adding an extra modem is cheap
- and easy. 2400 baud modems (which is all you need for TeleBears) are going
- for about $40 in the IBM PC clone world. Instead of sitting there for an
- hour trying to dial in by hand, we could just write scripts for our terminal
- software and let it dial all day and all night.
-
- Of course, modems are only a poor substitute for an ether board, which could
- possibly handle hundreds of connections, but the University would be
- horrified at the thought of something as efficient and easy to use as
- TelnetBears.
-
- I will do some research into this, too, and find out who we will have to
- harass.
