- Hmm, I'm not sure what angle you're coming from. Are you thinking of moving
- here or just visiting? The two require totally different answers.
-
- So I'll stick to generalities.
-
- Swarthmore is a suburb of Philadelphia, and is definitely a small college
- town type. Crime rate is low. It's very much a residential area with very
- little in terms of stores. The price of houses are ridiculously high,
- compared to the neighboring towns. From my biased point of view, I'd say
- middle class to rich folks actually own houses here.
-
- There are several bus/trolley/train routes that will get you to Philadelphia
- in about 30-45 minutes for $1.45-$3.00 (depending on your route). With the
- I-95 and I-476, driving will take even less. So access to Philadelphia's
- culturual centers is easy.
-
- Then there are the surround malls in Media and Springfield, quaint
- restuarants, ubiquitous multiple cinema complexes, etc, all within 10-15
- minute driving distance.
-
- The life on Swarthmore College itself is a totally different matter but I
- don't know if you're going to be living near or working at the college or
- not.
-
- Hmm, this is very hard question to answer unless I know why you're
- interested in Swarthmore.
