- The login you use on the NB will tell it what protocol (PPP or SLIP)

- Once you are connected if the NB is set to "auto" mode it will send VJ
- compressed packets IF it sees one from the other end. That is, it watches
- the line to see whether it should switch on the compression.

- If you turn it "on" then it will initiate calls with this feature enabled.

- Somewhat like the "compression" in their Trailblazer modems. You can enable
- "automatic" detection, set it "on", or "off". If its "on" the other end
- must support compression.
