- Hi Everybody,
-
- Being one of the first few in setting up a campus-wide FDDI network
- using the Proteon router P4200 in about 3 years ago has costed us a
- lot, not in terms of dollars but in the time and efforts we have
- spent in making the ring stable.
-
- Recently, with the advice from Proteon, we have upgraded to Rev 12.1Z
- in all our P4200s and CNXs. Much to our disappointment, the result was
- that our ring keeps on bouncing up and down. After spending almost 8
- hours in trouble-shooting and bearing all our users' complaints, we
- decided to revert back to the previous release which is 11.0b for CNXs
- and 11.0c (sp 6) for P4200s. Prior to the upgrade, our P4200s can
- reload for no reasons and that is why we have decided to go for Rev 12.1
-
- As usual, our Proteon support personnel gives us the same reply: "Your
- problem does not happen in the other sites". Their preliminary findings
- is that our P4200s' hardware might not be compatible with Rev 12.1Z
- though they should confirm before advising us to upgrade.
-
- Our configuration is very simple. We have 14 P4200s and 2 CNXs and
- with IP, XNS, AppleTalk and IPX forwarders installed in a pure routing
- environment. There are NO bridging and WAN traffic at all. Most
- important is that our ring contains Proteon routers ONLY !
-
- It is my intention to keep this message short though I have many other
- problems to share with you. I have been following this newsgroup closely
- and there has been very few discussion. I wish I can share your experience.
- Any hints to the above problem would be very much appreciated.
-
- Thank you.
