- I've got network here comprising primarily Pronet-10 but with an Arcnet
- area, and connected together over an IBM Token Ring backbone. Many of
- the components of this LAN are over 5 years old and I'm really beginning
- to suffer from the flakies. It's about to the point that the old
- trial-and-error method of linking out ports until you find the culprit
- isn't working, especially when the failing component (Nim, wirecenter)
- is still half working.
-
- I've looked into diagnostic packages, and I even have Lansight, but I've
- found it totally useless in many situations, because it assumes the
- network is working to begin with. :p
-
- I called Proteon about TokenView last year. I don't recall the
- specifics about the package, and they never did send the literature on
- it I asked for.
-
- I need some way to debug a dying lan. If it is totally dead, I can find
- the problems. I want to be able to walk to a dedicated PC somewhere and
- have it tell me which PC is having the most problems transmitting, or
- anything that will tell me where to start looking for the problem.
-
- The frustrating thing is that all the software that will do this is
- either Token-Ring or Ethernet, or even Arcnet. There is nothing
- available for Pronet. When I talked to Proteon, the tech support guy I
- talked to acted like they didn't even have anything in house that would
- do that.
-
- Maybe my 4-times-predecessor made a mistake choosing Pronet-10, because
- it's becoming a real pain in the neck to deal with.
-
- Is anyone at Proteon Listening??
