- FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE UN-AWARE OF IRC (get ready for a BIG surprise!):
-
- telnet to BRADENVILLE.ANDREW.CMU.EDU
-
- THEN it will show you some info about it... Then where it says "Nick",
- type in your Nickname, or alias. Then it will ask for your terminal type.
- Fill that in. When it clears the screen and it scrolls all the info, your in.
- Usually there are about 600-1200 people on at a time. To list all the
- people, (I suggest you don't do this, unless your insane) type /who *
- To get a list of channels, type /list
- Format of channel "/list":
- ex:
- \/Name \/#of users\/ current topic (set by /topic #channelname text...)
- #channel users topic
- ----------------------
- #fubar 13 PARTY PARTY PARTY PARTY!!!!
- #plblbl 5
- #wobler 9 BZZZZT!
- Pvt (this you can't join)
- #wobars 1 Join one, Join two, Join all!
-
- To join a channel, type "/join #channelname" whereas the # is just a #
- sign... it is always before channelnames.
-
- Once in a channel, incoming messages will show up as:
-
- <<nickname>> Text...
- You can talk to the channel by just typing out the text, all by itself,
- and then hit ENTER. Ex:
-
- <bocee> Hey Ron, hows that ML prog goin?
- <Ron> It sux, i quit it.
- >> Hey everyone! (<- This is what shows up after you type "Hey everyone!"
- it looks like "<ernie> Hey everyone!" to everyone else.
- (assuming your nickname is "ernie"))
- <bocee> Hey, ernie.
-
-
- You can quit by typing "/quit". Or to just exit the channel, type "/part
- #channelname".
- To send private messages... type "/msg <nicknameofpersontosendto> <text>"
- ex:
- /msg Ron Hey dude, whats up?
- Which shows up to them as:
- *ernie* Hey dude, whats up?
-
- All incoming private messages have the nickname surrounded by a star on
- each side of it and the text following. ex "*Ron* get lost, ernie"
-
- Well thats just about all you need to know. If you need help, type "/help"
