- I need a little ( OK alot ) of help. For the last 2 weeks I have been tring to do this.:
- ( Please tell me I'm not insane for trying...)
-
- Hardware: Dell 486D/33 w/ integrated SVGA & 8Mb RAM.
- SMC Elite16 Combo E-Net card.
- Bernoulli 90Mb Pro Removable drive
- ( NO hard drive- must boot off of the Bernoulli !)
-
- Software: Config File: DOSCFG.EXE > to determine where and how many
- bernoullis there are. ( NEEDED)
- DOSOAD.SYS > Bernoulli Driver. (NEEDED)
- QEMM.SYS > You know... ( NEEDED )
- SCPLUS > Disk Cache optimized for Bernoulli cartridges. ( WANTED)
- STACKER.COM > You know... ( WANTED you can imagine w/ only 90Mb)
- Autoexec.bat: LSL.COM > Link Slip Layer ( NEEDED )
- SMCPLUS.COM > E-Net Card Driver. (NEEDED)
- TCPIP.EXE > TCP/IP protocol. ( NEEDED)
- TELAPI.EXE > Allows the running of Novell TCP/IP
- programs ie. Filexprs , et al. (NEEDED)
-
- Also consider that QEMM cannot use any stealth mode on this computer,
- and I must X=A000-CDFF for the SVGA, the ethernet card and the bernoulli card.
- When I run DV/X only about 380K is available in conventional memory,
- because of all of those bloody driversthat I need.
- What I'm trying to do is run DV/X and Windows 3.1 ( Standard Mode)
- concurrently ( NOT Win 3.1 in an X-Window), but to switch back and forth between them.
- This works for the most part, BUT when I try to use a Windows Network program
- ( using the tcp driver ) It blows up. QuarterDeck suggest in the mannual, that when running
- network drivers that you might have to experiment with loading some before you start DV/X
- and some in the window that you want to run the network program in. I`ve tried every
- combination of loading these drivers before starting Win 3.1, but to no avail.
- What I'm trying to do seems like a reasonable thing to want to do, but even if I got
- the drivers working, what could anyone do in 380K? Does anyone have DV/X running on a
- network, AND have enough memory to do any computing?
- Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated.
- ThankYou
- -Sean
