  12. Someone called me to task, via email, on my response to the question
  13. about Tuxedo and OnLine, where I stated that TP/XA was required for
  14. 2 phase commit.  Let me clarify that OnLine 5.0 has 2PC for homogeneous
  15. OnLine transactions, i.e. if you are using a regular front end (DBaccess,
  16. ESQL, 4GL, etc) you can do a 2PC in an OnLIne/I-Star environment.

  18. When you start using Tuxedo, regardless of what client product you use
  19. (4GL does have a library that supports Tuxedo calls: 4GL TP Toolkit),
  20. you then need to add TP/XA in order to get 2PC *via Tuxedo*.  OnLine,
  21. by iteself (i.e. w/o TP/XA) will not support a *Tuxedo* global (i.e.
  22. distributed) transaction.
  23. You *CAN* use Tuxedo and OnLine w/o TP/XA if your transaction does not
  24. need to be a Tuxedo global transaction across multiple RMs.
