- I wrote about a month ago asking about my "chauvanist" cockatiel, Ricky,
- who was not helping Boyd with the eggs. For a while, Boyd sat on the eggs
- day and night, and later, Ricky started going into the box, both with and
- without her. He seemed "nervous", often tussling about in there, and
- junping out of the box every time I opened the door to the room they are
- in. The end result was that 3 of the 4 eggs were broken...the remaining
- one being infertile. Ricky has now started preening Boyd for the first
- time and I think he is gradually figuring this mating/egg sitting thing
- out. However, Ricky used to be a real sweetie--whistling, talking &
- bobbing his head. Now he refuses to be touched and even bites me when I
- put food in the dish. I understand that behavior can change when they are
- "nesting", but will it ever change back. If they are going to be strictly
- breeders from now on, I'm considering finding them a new home. Those of
- you with hand fed pets who have raised clutches, do they ever regain their
- pet potential?
