- What a delight to discover this newsgroup one week before I get a modem and
- hook onto the net. I know just enough computer-ese to be dangerous, so if
- I trample some protocol clue me in. With music in my head since before birth,
- I've concluded that much of what people usually call reggae music evokes
- ancient, foundational intervals and harmonies, then weds them to rhythms of
- a human nature (heartbeat, walking cadences, etc.). Hence its widespread
- appeal melodically and rhythmically. What makes some of the Music addi-
- tionally crucial to me are the conscious lyrics -- those having to do with
- liberation--spiritual or otherwise, and those with an instructive, positive
- directness. IMHO, even the instrumental reggae stands out if it stands UP
- reverentially, e.g. Augustus Pablo's best riffs make it clear Who or what
- spirit is being glorified. No ooey-gooey lyrics for this child. Any
- thoughts on this out there?
- On another note: Does anyone know where I can find tapes/cd's by
- Jah Levi and the Higher Reasoning? They played at the Dugout Lounge here
- in old Athens, OH in Sept. '91 (as well as Israel Vibration - what a great
- autumn!) and they Rocked the House, if you know what I mean. I have one
- wrinkled tape, and have written to the address in Beat magazine to order
- more, but...NO REPLY
