- Clayton is a singer, and not much to my taste. Don't know this specific
- one, though.

- Go for the Mosaic box, you get *all* the music, a better mix and much
- better liner notes. This one has killer version of Ellington's "Things
- Aint' What They Used To Be"; the title tune is also nice. It's really
- fun to hear Cecil playing this kind of music, both straight (as on
- "Punkins" and subversively (as on "Things.") There's also an early take
- of "O.P.", the tune that as been characterized as Cecil Taylor
- "chainwhipping the 12-bar blues." It's actually much weaker than the
- more famous take that's on NEW YORK CITY R'N'B (and on the Mosaic box,
- get the hint?), but I think it's better to hear it first, as Cecil
- stay more overtly closer to the blues form. All in all, an excellent
- way to get into Cecil for the first time, but somewhat weak if you already
- know and dig the man's music.

- Yes, they combined the two albums, dropping one tune.

-
- Superb!! Quite probably the best early David Murray albums out there.

- Both from the same gig, both good (but somehow not as good as my memories
- of that gig -- they must have taped on a different night.) I prefer SEAGULLS.
