- In actual fact the SX chips are DX's that failed to meet DX specifications.
- The most common failure was in the floating point performance. Hence, rather than
- waste the chips, Intel disabled the FPU part and sold them as SX's.

- The floating point unit in the 486DX is actually an 80387, not an 80487.
- The 80487 is still very expensive as a standalone chip.
