- Well, I have finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase a big
- amp (atleast by my standards). It is an Alpine 3550, that I got on
- special at a Boxing Day sale.
-
- Currently in my car (a Mustang LX Sedan) I have an Alpine 3503 small
- tinker-toy amp. This amp having such a low current draw, is hooked
- in with the wire powering the deck. This amp will remain where it is to
- power my tweeters and mids.
-
- Now, the 3550 is going to be installed in my trunk to power my 8" Sony
- triaxials and my yet to be installed subwoofer. So I must face the
- inevitable task of bringing power to the amp.
-
- What I need to know is what I will need to wire the amp directly to the
- battery, as in terms of wiring, fuses, distribution blocks, etc. If I recall
- correctly the 3550 pulls at maximum around 25-35 Amperes of power. It will
- be the only amp running off of this connection, however I may want to move
- the small Alpine into the trunk or add another amp at a later time.
-
- My second question regards the actual physical routing of this wiring. Do I
- have to go right through the firewall with these power cables or can I take
- an alternate route?
-
- I once read an article in Mustang Monthly where they installed a Nitrous Oxide
- System in the exact model car as mine. What they did was install the nitrous
- bottle in the trunk and put the hose through a hole in the trunk floor. The
- hose was then snaked through the UniBody construction (not outside of the
- car, but not through the interior either). Eventually the hose popped out
- of a little hole just ahead of the door hinge and was brought up into the
- engine compartment.
-
- Has anybody heard of this being done for car audio? If not, is it feasible
- and safe?
