- I'm trying to think of some non-Rabelaisian pieces
- about farting. Are there any?
-
- There is a Mark Twain short story, the name of which escapes
- me at present. It's *very* bawdy and hilarious. I've been
- told it's in the most recent Library of America edition of
- Twain's work. I've got a photocopy at home and can check the
- title if there's interest.
-
- It probably won't do. Its Rabelaisian. Actually, we have a problem. It
- is difficult to imagine anything about farting that is not either
- Rabelaisian (by Godwin's definition this included the Miller's Tale)
- or medical. In what civilization has farting not been a joke?
