  19. This observation is important, I think.  We need to devise the charter in
  20. such a way that it becomes very clear that the purpose of the newsgroup is
  21. not to support discussion of various ethnic conflicts.  There are definitions
  22. of words like "aboriginal" and "indigenous" which come from bodies like the
  23. United Nations which can be very useful in this regard.

  28. The necessary support for such a newsgroup may in fact be forthcoming at
  29. some point in the near future.  However, at the present time, it seems to
  30. many people that there may be greater value in having a forum which permits
  31. and encourages dialogue among various groups of indigenous peoples all
  32. attempting to hold on to their traditions and unique understandings about
  33. the world.  I think it's a matter of timing and creating something initially
  34. which might become the basis for a new effort to create something uniquely
  35. "American" (including subjects of all the Americas, that is), if it is felt
  36. to be needed.
