Any teachers have a solution to the apathetic parent problem?
I teach Kindergarten. Traditionally, it's fairly easy to get parents to do things this early. This year's class, however, is another story! It started with just "getting" a room mother. The only volunteer for room mom turned out to have religious feelings against holidays and holiday parties, so we decided to find something different for her to do. I get few volunteers to come and help in the classroom with parties. When I send home notes asking for donations for parties, it's like pulling teeth to get thi
ngs donated. (I am pretty certain that part of that has to do with the economic situations of the families involved.) Last night, however, was the biggest disappointment: we had our Christmas program, and 50% of my class of 30 did not come. Two had religious reasons (understandable), the rest...????? We sent the notes home in both English and Spanish so we know they could get the message.
I would start to get a complex, and believe it to
be me, but I feel certain it is not as I've never had this trouble before!!!
