- If true (I don't know from firsthand knowledge, either, but wouldn't
- be surprised), I suspect it dates back to the original ACE initiative,
- when COMPAQ and others were talking about using the MIPS R4000 instead
- of Intel chips to break the Intel stranglehold on the PC market, and
- NT was seen as the compatible OS to allow people to migrate to the
- newer, more powerful machines. When ACE started showing signs of
- falling apart was when the deal was cut with DEC about the Alpha, I
- think.
