  29. A common misconception, popularized in the media (especially in the
  30. Dear Abby/Ann Landers sob-sister columns), is that a gun in the house
  31. is more likely to murder a "loved one" than to defeat a burglar.

  33. The tables below show the total victims of each type, the type
  34. being the relationship to the murderer, and the circumstances during
  35. which the victim was murderd.

  37. Table one shows the numbers as percentages, table two as victim counts,
  38. and table three as in descending order of all types by victim.

  42. Note that ALL murders are counted, regardless of the weapon used.

  44. that a gun is used far more in murdering strangers than it is for
