  30. There's the important question of consent.  The retarded woman 
  31. apparently gave consent for the acts, and while some of them are
  32. unusual, they are well within the range of known behavior of
  33. adults of both sexes with full mental capacity.  Now, most of us
  34. would say that the youths should have known better than to have
  35. sex with her, but it may be they were dumb and incapable of
  36. making the necessary distinctions.  Actually, I have some trouble
  37. with them myself, because the woman, according to the media, 
  38. possesses the intelligence of an eight-year-old, but an ordinary
  39. eight-year-old would almost certainly refuse intercourse with a
  40. fungo bat.  I do not envy the jurors who have to sit in judgement
  41. on this one.

  43. I note that a good deal of the talk about this has focused 
  44. on the _unaesthetic_ quality of having sex with a retarded 
  45. person.  It is not relevant.
