  14. anything can be addictive; masturbation can be addictive, eating, etc. and most
  15. of it is only partially physical.  the mind is grasping for anything it can
  16. find in these roughstomach nietzschean days...love addiction, sex addiction,
  17. food addiction...strange...

  19. alcoholism, is, i believe a physical disease.  i have more reason to know than
  20. most of you, given the usual profile of people on here (much more into the
  21. so-called illicit drugs than alcohol).  alcohol is dangerous shit, and
  22. alcoholism is a slippery term -- you can be an alcoholic on two beers a year. 
  23. very few people understand it or want to; alcohol's legal, so no one's gonna
  24. say it's that unsafe.  it's not.  it's an extremely predictable drug, so you
  25. can tell when to avoid it, but like anything else it is best in moderation. 
  26. i'm sure you can fry your brain on LSD; I'm sure you can fry your brain on
  27. water.  debating the extremes is solipsistic.

  29. i'd try heroin before i'd try cocaine.  some drugs strike me as really bad for
  30. my personality.  i bet if i took coke i'd end up like my father, an asshole
  31. (some of course are saying at this point that i am an asshole, which is
  32. simple-minded, not unlike the music of the red hot chilipeppers or, say, the
  33. riffs of ministry or the lyrics of stevie ray vaughan).  i bet if i took heroin
  34. i'd resemble my dead relatives.

  36. so sure, you can burn out on anything.  even the masturbator addicted will rub
  37. himself raw.  lsd, mdma, whatever.  alcohol included -- you can bottom out, and
  38. then go beyond, where you don't want to do anything but want to be in motion. 
  39. it's horrible (of course, this is only what i hear).

  41. ever come out of a three day blackout?  (i hear) it's completely disorienting
  42. and horrible.  ever drink something disgusting because you needed it (medicine
  43. not included)?  i'm told it's just rank, yet satisfying.  i'm told, i'm told.

  45. so yeah, addiction is part of any drug, even the ones your body produces.  ask
  46. the marathon runner.  id oubt anyone will ever face this, beccause we're all
  47. looking for easy answers like "LSD is safe" or "LSD is evil" or "if you just
  48. give someone this magic pink pill/tab/shot, they'll be just fine and see how
  49. great life is."

  53. and i'm told alcoholics are liars, but i see too many who have seen the abyss,
  54. recognized it, and then headed for the bottle -- who admit it, know it as
  55. religion, and sing their own kind of blues.  i've heard so, anyway.
