  19. LOS ANGELES COPS MOVE AGAINST SOUTH CENTRAL YOUTHS

  23. Anger hit the streets of South Central Los Angeles on  Dec. 14 in
  24. response to a police assault on demonstrators.
  25.  
  26. According to an Associated Press report, protesters assembled at
  27. the intersection of Florence and Normandie avenues in the South
  28. Central section, where last spring's rebellion began.
  29.  
  30. Community activists distributed leaflets protesting the high bail
  31. set for four men arrested and charged in the beating of truck
  32. driver Reginald Denny in the early hours of the uprising. These
  33. men are currently awaiting trial.

  35. As the demonstration was winding down police in riot gear
  36. apparently attacked. They arrested 60 people. Most were booked
  37. for "investigation of failure to disperse."

  39. More than 250 cops, fully riot-equipped, were sent into the South
  40. Central. Enraged community members responded by throwing rocks
  41. and bottles at police cars and breaking windows at a service
  42. station.
