- excerpted from NYC People's Life Fund end-of-year letter:

-
-
- During the past twelve months, PLF awarded grants totalling
- $18,750 -- the largest amount in our history! In addition to our
- grants and loans to community organizations that have impact on
- areas such as health, the environment, hunger relief and the arts,
- our fund has broken new ground in its support for new groups like
- the Network of Black Organizers.
-
- War tax resistance received an unprecedented degree of national
- media attention [and] organizing support because of the struggle
- of Randy Kehler and Betsy Corner.
-
- And locally, war tax resistance continued to build momentum and
- popular support through the work of the Alternative Revenue
- Service (ARS) program, which in its second year redirected
- $8,366.57 in resisted war taxes to alternative funds throughout
- the United States, including $1,693.75 designated for the New York
- City People's Life Fund.
-
- This demonstrated the level of discontent with a system that
- channels 54% of our tax dollars in Fiscal Year 1992 for military
- spending, despite the "end" of the cold war.
-
- SUPPORT THE NATIONAL WAR TAX RESISTANCE COORDINATING COMMITTEE!
- NWTRCC is the cement for numerous war tax resistance communities
- throughout the country, and they provide critical information and
- support to alternative funds like PLF. We're making a special
- request that you designate a part of your PLF contribution to
- further support the work of NWTRCC.
-
- We're also asking you to contribute to our War Tax Resistance
- Expense Fund, which enables us to mail information and perform the
- administrative work of PLF.
-
- INCREASING PLF SUPPORT: In addition to dispositing war tax money
- or making contributions, we encourage you to use the People's Life
- Fund as a socially responsible bank. In other words, lend us an
- amount for a designated period, and let us keep the interest. By
- doing this, you'll be helping us to increase our assets in another
- important way. ...
-
- It's imperative that you come out to support PLF. By doing so, you
- also support and strengthen the numerous community groups in our
- network. If you'd like to attend regular meetings at which we
- discuss loan and grant applications, or if you're interested in
- serving on the Board of the People's Life Fund, call Sallie Marx
- at 212-929-4833 or Margarett Jolly at 718-981-5581.
