  25. Chilean Christian Democrats Announce Candidate for 1993 Elections

  27. The Christian Democratic party in Chile announced on Dec. 13
  28. that Senator Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tangle will be their candidate in
  29. the presidential elections in December of 1993. Aside from being
  30. the head of the party, Frei is the son of former Chilean
  31. president Eduardo Frei Montalva (1964-1970). The party's
  32. president said that among the main tasks for the next government
  33. are to continue the struggle against extreme poverty. He said the
  34. new government will defeat anything which threatens democracy. He
  35. also pointed out that the next presidential term must incorporate
  36. respect for the dignity of the workers as a permanent fact and
  37. clarified the role which the country's youth should develop.
