- Greetings.
-
- I have a NeXT station and a MAC Quadra and a PC at home. They
- are connected with thin coax Ethernet. I purchased a product
- from IPT, named Ushare that allows the Quadra to print onto the
- NeXT's laser. The product works well with 3.0, was easy to set
- up, and is transparent to the MAC (it just shows up in the chooser
- as 'NeXTLaser').
-
- I found two points on the negative side. The software is a bit
- pricy, about 600.00. The second point is my personal experiences
- with the company. The software required an encripted key which
- is based on the CPU ID of your next. You must call in after you
- receive the software to get this key. Here is were my problems
- occurred. My NeXT is at home. They seemed unwilling to just give
- me the key over the phone, wanting a FAX instead. After some
- discussion, I convinced them that I was not going back into work
- just to fax the information that I could tell them over the phone.
- They said that they would call right back. Three days later,
- I had to make two more calls to finally get the key.
-
- The key that you get is only good for 1-2months. Only after IPT
- receives the payment will you get a perm. key. Again, when the
- time came up to get the key, I had to make 3-4 phone calls over
- 2 days to get a response.
-
- The last point, the origonal software was only good for NS 2.1.
- Since I purchased the software within 2 weeks of their updated
- product for 3.0, I was told that my upgrade would be 'in the mail'.
- Stupidly, I upgraded to 3.0. When I called IPT 3 days later, I
- was told that I could not have the upgrade. After finally getting
- through to the person who had origionally told me that my upgrade
- was in the mail, he told me that the version I had would work
- just fine. When it didn't, and I raised HELL with them, they
- said that they had 'misunderstood' and would send me my update.
- I week later I finally had it.
-
- My point is this, their product works great, their tech support
- is good, but in my experience they are disorganized. The software
- key idea is ok, but they inconvienienced me and wasted my time
- by being slow producing the software keys.
