- I have an original 030 cube at home with the Optical Disk Drive. Rebooting the
- machine after a day or two down, I find that when I insert an optical disk, it
- loads but does not spin up--nothing happens at all. After a while the
- following message shows up in /usr/adm/messages:
-
- Dec 14 19:18:32 zardoz mach: od0?: drive command failed (not at speed) block
- 30 phys block -66384 (0:0:0)
-
- I tried cleaning the compartment with a Q-tip, and cleaned the laser lens, but
- it made no difference. I have to shut the machine down entirely to get it to
- eject the disk; if I remove it via paper clip (the eject hole), I cannot
- re-insert an OD until I reboot.
-
- I know the OD is OK because I checked it on another machine.
-
- Before I send it back for repairs ($$$!!!) I thought I would ask if anyone has
- had this problem and if there are any other things I might try.
-
- Thank you very much in advance!
