- There must be something wrong with my system then ;-) On my IIfx I
- have a clearly noticeable performance improvement with GC acceleration
- under 7.0, even in 8-bit mode. It is true that this becomes less and
- less noticeable at lower bit depths. Bit-blitting operations
- (scrolling, moving windows) are definitely much faster. Unfortunately,
- however, there are some cases where acceleration indeed actually *slows*
- things down. Pulling down the Apple menu is a good example.
-
- I've also noticed a gradual performance degradation, apparently
- after using particular applications or when applications (usually my
- own) crash. Although I'm not certain that this really has anything to
- do with the GC card, noone else I know has this problem. Has anyone
- else noticed this? My pet theory is that some data structures cached
- by the GC don't get disposed of properly and clutter up its memory.
- Probably I should investigate this a little more before spreading such
- rumors... anyone know of a good Am29000 cross-development platform?
-
- By the way, make sure that you have the latest version of the
- GC software (7.0.1, I believe), which fixes the cache-disabling bug
- you mentioned.
