  15. Windows Sockets is an API specification. A TCP/IP vendor implements the API
  16. support via a DLL named "winsock.dll" with characteristics specified in the
  17. document. Many vendors are planning support of the Windows Sockets API with
  18. their TCP/IP implementations. Since I have seen postings from most of these
  19. vendors on this group, I will leave it to them to respond with availability
  20. information for their implementation.

  22. Microsoft will offer Windows Sockets support in the "TCP/IP for Windows for
  23. Workgroups" package released early next year. Additionally, both 16- and
  24. 32-bit Windows Sockets support will be available in Windows NT.
