- Unfortunately, the news reports I heard Tuesday indicated that *layoffs*
- are possible for the first time in IBM history. I certainly hope they
- will be able avoid that extreme. I also hope, selfishly, that OS/2 is
- not one of the areas affected. From all I hear it seems like mainframes
- is what is hurting. This does not come as a great surprise to many of us.
- The mainframe still has its place but the demand for them has grown less
- with the decentralization that PC's and Workstations have enabled.
