  12. OK.  Since I've been looking around for GIF/BMP programs recently I've 
  13. decided to post what I've found (and compare them).
  14.  
  15. GIF viewers can be found at:
  16. ftp.cica  at /pub/pc/win3/desktop   and
  17. garbo  at win3/gifutil
  18.  
  19. DOS GIF viewers
  20. CSHOW  the most common.  I'm not sure where to download it from but its ok.
  21. Its speed is good but it only opens GIF files.
  22. GWS  also good.  I'm not sure where to get this either.  It is slower than
  23. cshow but can open almost everything (GIF, BMP, PCX, etc) and can convert
  24. between them.  Recommended for DOS transforming.
  25. GIFV37.ZIP from garbo.  Definately NAG-WARE.  Opens GIF (maybe BMP) but
  26. doesn't convert anything.

  28. I'd recommend CSHOW for viewing and GWS for transforming.

  30. WINDOWS GIF viewers
  31. IMAGE.ZIP from cica.  Terrible.  No conversion, no color, no dice.
  32. CVIEW386.ZIP from cica.  Good quality.  Takes up a lot of memory though.
  33. Only opens GIF and BMP (and IMG I think).  Good at manipulating brightness
  34. contrast, gamma, etc but check out PSP.
  35. PSP10.ZIP  from cica.  Paint Shop Pro.  Great.  Definately get.  Great
  36. quality, conversion from about everything to everything.  Reads GIF, BMP and
  37. about ten other formats.  The best but is a little slower the CSHOW for DOS.
  38. WINGIF>ZIP from cica.  Good.  About as fast a PSP10 but doesn't convert.
  39. Opens both GIF and BMP.
  40. GWSWIN10.ZIP from cica.  GWS for DOS windows counterpart.  I haven't tried
  41. this personally but I hear it's similar to the DOS version.  Slow too.

  45. I'd recommend Paint Shop Pro to do everything and then some.
