- OK. Since I've been looking around for GIF/BMP programs recently I've
- decided to post what I've found (and compare them).
-
- GIF viewers can be found at:
- ftp.cica at /pub/pc/win3/desktop and
- garbo at win3/gifutil
-
- DOS GIF viewers
- CSHOW the most common. I'm not sure where to download it from but its ok.
- Its speed is good but it only opens GIF files.
- GWS also good. I'm not sure where to get this either. It is slower than
- cshow but can open almost everything (GIF, BMP, PCX, etc) and can convert
- between them. Recommended for DOS transforming.
- GIFV37.ZIP from garbo. Definately NAG-WARE. Opens GIF (maybe BMP) but
- doesn't convert anything.
-
- I'd recommend CSHOW for viewing and GWS for transforming.
-
- WINDOWS GIF viewers
- IMAGE.ZIP from cica. Terrible. No conversion, no color, no dice.
- CVIEW386.ZIP from cica. Good quality. Takes up a lot of memory though.
- Only opens GIF and BMP (and IMG I think). Good at manipulating brightness
- contrast, gamma, etc but check out PSP.
- PSP10.ZIP from cica. Paint Shop Pro. Great. Definately get. Great
- quality, conversion from about everything to everything. Reads GIF, BMP and
- about ten other formats. The best but is a little slower the CSHOW for DOS.
- WINGIF>ZIP from cica. Good. About as fast a PSP10 but doesn't convert.
- Opens both GIF and BMP.
- GWSWIN10.ZIP from cica. GWS for DOS windows counterpart. I haven't tried
- this personally but I hear it's similar to the DOS version. Slow too.
-
- .
-
- I'd recommend Paint Shop Pro to do everything and then some.
-
- If you have any further questions email me.
