  22. Rule #1: Any activity that involves people involves politics,
  23. emotion, and personalities.

  25. Rule #2: Discovering a new fact means that either the experts didn't
  26. already know the fact, or that what they "knew" was wrong. Some people
  27. cannot admit that they were wrong, or that there is something they
  28. don't know.

  30. Rule #3: The intensity of the politics is inversely proportional to
  31. the size of the pie and/or directly proportional to the size of the
  32. potential reward.

  34. The size of the pie that researcher are dividing is pretty small, and
  35. the potential rewards for cold fusion are huge.

  37. Based on a life long association with research scientists I'd say that
  38. what you see here is both the good and the bad of science as it really
  39. happens. Well, all most, these guys are using their "Sunday go to
  40. meeting manners" because this is a public medium and there are
  41. non-scientist present.
