- Also add to the list: the Russians at Port Arthur in February of 1904
- to open the Russo-Japanese War (1904-6). The Japanese (without
- declaring war - precedent for Pearl) sent in destroyers/torpedo boats
- into the harbour under the cover of night. Russian security measures
- were atrocious, resulting in the loss of one battleship and two heavy
- cruisers. The Japanese could have done better, but the torpedo fleet
- was split up into several waves, with the result that only the first
- wave enjoyed any success.
