  14. Attention non-linear thinkers!  Dick Morley (inventor of the Programmable
  15. Controller, founder of Modicon and Flavors Technology, and a director
  16. of the Industrial Computing Society) is organizing a conference on the
  17. practical application of chaos theory.  If history is any indication,
  18. this should be a *very* interesting event.  Hope to see you there...

  20.                  CHAOS/COMPLEX SYSTEMS CONFERENCE
  21.                        SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO
  22.                   DECEMBER 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 1992

  24. We are living in an era of whirlwind global change, a time when old
  25. paradigms are shattered by larger realities.  On December 2-4, 1992,
  26. a small, but enthusiastic group of non-linear thinkers will gather
  27. in Santa Fe, New Mexico for a series of informal roundtable discussions
  28. on chaos theory and its application in the solution of problems associated
  29. with complex, non-linear, dynamic systems.

  31. The goal of this forum is to:
  32.  
  33.  * Bring chaos theory enthusiasts from industry and academia together
  34.    face-to-face at one place and time
  35.  
  36.  * Bridge the gap between the theory and practice of chaos science
  37.  
  38.  * Build a cooperative network of practitioners who can assist each other
  39.    in overcoming applications hurdles.
  40.  
  41. There will be no formal agenda for this three-day event, although the
  42. general conference theme is "Chaos and Complex Systems from a Practitioner's
  43. Point of View".  Attendees from academia will be encouraged to update the 
  44. group on state-of-the-art advances in chaos theory and complex systems.
  45. Applications-focused attendees will be encouraged to discuss their problems,
  46. successes and needs.

  48. A questionnaire will be sent out to registered participants soliciting
  49. suggestions for roundtable discussion topics or to indicate interest in
  50. a topic that has already been proposed for discussion.
  51.  
  52. Among the discussion topics already proposed:

  54.  * Autonomous Cells/Agents in Complex Systems
  55.  * Optimization of Non-Linear Dynamic Systems
  56.  * Optimization of Autonomous Agent-Based Complex Systems
  57.  
  58. No traditional presentations or formal papers will be necessary to put a 
  59. topic "into play" during the conference.
  60.  
  61. The conference will be held in the La Fonda Hotel, located in Santa Fe.
  62. Conference hours will run from 9:00 to noon each day, followed by an
  63. afternoon get-together from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.  The La Fonda Hotel
  64. conference room will accommodate 200 people, so attendance will be 
  65. limited to the first 200 people who register.  A non-refundable 
  66. registration fee of $55 will be collected from each participant to
  67. help cover the costs of the conference.
