- Despite all the things that machines do for us, collectively we seem to
- be getting farther and farther away from the "life of leisure" that
- futurists were predicting twenty years ago. Contemporary life is incredibly
- stressful for most people. Alarmingly so, I'd say. Some people have options,
- it's true. But most of us are deeply enmeshed. Sure, you can move to
- "someplace better" (wherever that is!), leaving a lifetime of friends
- familiar places behind. It's much easier to talk about it than to do it!
- You can ride your bike, but what do you do if the air isn't fit to breathe?
- I drive three hours a day in order to live someplace beautiful and sane,
- but my commute is yet another source of stress! What to do...
