  17. Despite all the things that machines do for us, collectively we seem to
  18. be getting farther and farther away from the "life of leisure" that
  19. futurists were predicting twenty years ago. Contemporary life is incredibly
  20. stressful for most people. Alarmingly so, I'd say. Some people have options,
  21. it's true. But most of us are deeply enmeshed. Sure, you can move to
  22. "someplace better" (wherever that is!), leaving a lifetime of friends
  23. familiar places behind. It's much easier to talk about it than to do it!
  24. You can ride your bike, but what do you do if the air isn't fit to breathe?
  25. I drive three hours a day in order to live someplace beautiful and sane,
  26. but my commute is yet another source of stress! What to do...
