- Here, too. The East has the Tyger's Cub, an award for children, and the
- Chancellor Minor. Fortunately (in my opinion), the Chancellor Minor hasn't
- actually tried to *do* much, so the extra bureaucracy hasn't been too bad.
- But the office just changed hands and this will likely change.
-
- Not content to settle for the Eastern award, AEthelmearc decided a few
- reigns in that it needed to have a children's award, too. I think it's a
- stupid idea, and I think these things tend to propegate through imitation
- without anyone ever sitting down and deciding whether it's a good idea
- (after the first one). In five years' time it'll probably infect all
- the kingdoms.
-
- I'm not anti-awards-for-kids -- but if the kid has done enough to rate
- an AoA, give him the AoA. (If he hasn't done enough to rate an AoA, why
- do we automatically have to have a kingdom award for him anyway? Kids
- even moreso than adults, by necessity, play locally; the kingdom is probably
- not the right vehicle for recognition in this case.) We have too many
- specialized awards anyway, but at least the other ones have to do with
- areas of endeavor, not with factors beyond the recipients' control. I
- rank this right up there with the Trimarian award for female fighters,
- women-only tourneys, and (hypothetical as far as I know) awards specifically
- for minorities.

- Hi Sappy. What are you doing here?
