- I don't know what the facts are, but here's what I got from the
- (Saturday?) NY Times article.
-
- The article really spun the story to suggest that Coyote has probably
- sunk. They had some expert who claims that the only reasonable
- conclusions for the EPIRB giving such a brief and weak signal is that
- it was momentarily activated by accident, or the sucker went to the
- bottom.
-
- They also claimed that some peripheral warning signs, including the
- radio transmission to the freighter, which according to the times,
- said he had lost ``all'' electrical power, strongly suggested Plant was in
- trouble, but since this was Mike Plant, the authorities, including the
- Coast Guard were inclined to let him sort it out, as he would be
- rather miffed to be rescued in the middle of ordinary self reliance.
-
- There was a chart which showed the EPIRB transmission quite a distance
- (several hundred miles?) due south of his last radio transmission,
- which suggested a course at right angles to his desired course. It
- looks like a dead drift.
-
- I would like to know what the weather was like during this entire
- period. There was no mention of severe weather in the article.
