  13. After seeing my roommates totally go beserk on one of their cars, I started
  14. to think about what is making my chevy stumble so badly on acceleration. 
  15. Here's what its doing:

  17. Start accelerating, from say, a light.  it accelerates fine for about three
  18. to four seconds, then it starts up something like a miss or a stumble.  It
  19. quits this if I let off the gas and runs normally.

  21. Vehicle in question:  1979 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup truck, 305 engine, Rochester
  22. Q-jet carb, (upgraded from Rochester Dual-jet 2bbl) Headers, and dual
  23. exhausts.

  25. My theory behind this is that some way or another, the power system in my
  26. carb is to blame.  The truck has had this problem since I have owned it,
  27. even through a change in carbs, from a two-barrel to a four-barrel.

  29. I'm thinking that the vacuum conditions are changing such that the power
  30. system is cutting out too early, resulting in an overly lean mixture; hence
  31. the stumbling.  Would there be something else in the carb fuel supply system
  32. that might account for this?

  34. Would there be another cause besides something in the carb?  I've replaced
  35. the distributor cap, and plugs and wires.  I don't have access to a coil
  36. tester, but it passes both the Chilton's and Haynes tests for a coil.  The
  37. igniton module passes on the module tester at the parts store, but it is old,
  38. probably the original module.  The coil is probably the original coil, too.
