- I hope I have Susan's experience next time (I realize that "necessarily"
- is there for a reason)! I had an episiotomy that kept hurting for a
- long time even though I was also up and around the day of my delivery.
- Like Susan, mine was sewn up too tight (and the nurse commented on it,
- too). This was a later source of pain...

- ICEA offers a pamphlet on a perineal massage you can do leading up to
- the delivery. I was going to do it, but only did it once before the
- baby arrived quite early.
-
- I think that they usually don't cut back toward the rectum, but sort
- of off to the side. I have forgotten exactly why but I remember that
- they cut straight back in some cases.
-
- Sitz baths do help and I wish I had taken more. Also, I didn't like
- the cold pads because they were too bulky to sit on. I didn't like
- any of the pads they offered. When I got out of the hospital we
- bought the thinnest maxi pads available. Those felt a LOT better.
- Also, I had red bleeding for 3 weeks and so did a friend, so don't
- worry too much that you have a problem (although perhaps you should
- have it checked out) if you aren't the "textbook case" on that.
