  17. I hope I have Susan's experience next time (I realize that "necessarily" 
  18. is there for a reason)! I had an episiotomy that kept hurting  for a 
  19. long time even though I was also up and around the day of my delivery.
  20. Like Susan, mine was sewn up too tight (and the nurse commented on it,
  21. too). This was a later source of pain...

  23. ICEA offers a pamphlet on a perineal massage you can do leading up to 
  24. the delivery. I was going to do it, but only did it once before the 
  25. baby arrived quite early.

  27. I think that they usually don't cut back toward the rectum, but sort 
  28. of off to the side. I have forgotten exactly why but I remember that
  29. they cut straight back in some cases.

  31. Sitz baths do help and I wish I had taken more. Also, I didn't like 
  32. the cold pads because they were too bulky to sit on. I didn't like 
  33. any of the pads they offered. When I got out of the hospital we 
  34. bought the thinnest maxi pads available. Those felt a LOT better.
  35. Also, I had red bleeding for 3 weeks and so did a friend, so don't 
  36. worry too much that you have a problem (although perhaps you should
  37. have it checked out) if you aren't the "textbook case" on that.
