  22. This points out one of the biggest problems with our society.  Since most
  23. of us have literally nothing to lose, and since people who have something
  24. to lose are likely to behave responsibly, we're running the risk of
  25. a social breakdown.  Since there are few guidelines for young people who are
  26. considering building assets, they take the easy way out:  avoiding having
  27. anything to lose.

  30. Seriously, us folks in our 20s and 30s don't have a network of peers to
  31. discuss these matters with.  I get the impression that previous generations
  32. had (a) more people to give them guidance, and (b) far fewer confusing
  33. options in the investment market.

  35. I find myself bewildered and with no one to talk to about how to manage
  36. money.  Having been burned in the past, I take an overly conservative
  37. approach akin to stuffing money under a mattress and hoping it doesn't
  38. get stolen.  The local library has whole aisles of books on investments,
  39. and it's hard to trust any of the authors.  What they advise probably
  40. won't work anyway, because the whole world economy is in an extended period
  41. of fundamental shakeout.
