- Yes, reading the fine print and complying with contract requirements can save
- a lot of headaches (and money), but I just want tosay a few words in defense of
- Ballys here.
-
- Last Christmas, my wife and kids and I went to visit her folks outside Orlando.
- I wanted to keep up my dialy swimming regimen, and the nearest lap pool I
- could find lay five miles from the in-laws in Altamonte Springs -- at a Bally's
- of course. I called and they told me the cost of a three-day pass, and I drove
- over over ready to pay. I signed up, and they gave me a week's complimentary
- pass. They simply asked where I live, and I thought that since Bally's
- does have some places in Phoenix that they would make me pay for the sin of
- not having joined out here (I use our student rec center, so I don't belong to
- any health clubs). Not at all. They cheerfully let me swim there for free, use
- their showers, pool, and anything else if I had wanted, I suppose.
-
- So I have a very different impression of Bally's, and should I find myself
- at some point in the future having to join a health club, that would weigh
- heavily in their favor as I pick among them. Yes, I know they provide comp
- memberships like that for exactly that reason. I call it smart.
