I am in the Western part of Massachusetts and teach in a small rural town which survices the two towns of Charlemont and Hawley. The school population through 6th grade , including pre-schoolers is about 190.
The first four questions you asked really don't apply. The last, regarding classroom management has seen some changes. I look at the environment the kids are coming from, their access to adult viewing material, increasing numbers of unsupervised children due to two working parents or single parents and this is definitely taking a toll on their decision making processes as well as their self-esteem. In many cases students are raised by the television as their parents lives are so full of pain , they
, the parents have difficulty functioning themselves let alone helping their children learn to make good choices and take responsibility for those choices regardless.
If you get a large percentage of these "damaged" children in one class it can make the educational process a very difficult one for everyone involved.
