-
- Small semantic play: all Sun machines run SunOS, one variant or another.
- Even though Sun is changing the OS base from BSD to SVR4, the result is
- still called SunOS, in this case 5.0 and on.
-
- It is not SunOS vs. Solaris, it is SunOS 4.x vsersus SunOS 5.x, or
- Solaris 1.x versus Solaris 2.x.

-
- Please don't rush them. For my part, I have had my share of rushed
- OS releases. SunOS 4.0 was much, much worse than 5.0, even though it
- was a smaller step. But the developers were under heavy pressure to
- get it done. So they cut edges. I can't blame them.
-
- And Sun learned from that. The SVR4 transition was infinitely
- better prepared. Except nobody seems to have listened before
- Sun made the transition a fact with the new machines.
