-
- Get my tprobe program from the comp.sources.3b1 archives. It's the only
- program that will copy the boot tapes properly. I installed ALL my Sun-3/60
- systems from the duplicated tape of SunOS 4.1.1 as one of the tests of tprobe.
-
- The man page and accompanying README files in the tprobe distribution explain
- all this in more detail; I'm not about to post another 20K article showing
- how and why "conventional" methods don't work "properly" for boot tapes.
-
- The reason that it's in the comp.sources.3b1 (on ftp.uu.net,
- archive.cis.ohio-state.edu, and other) archives is because it would appear
- the moderator of comp.sources.unix has died or sumtin' (who knows?) and it
- also runs on a 3B1 (along with HPUX, SVR4, CTIX, SunOS, Solaris, and just
- about everything else I've tried it on; I called-in a favor to the moderator
- of comp.sources.3b1 because I was receiving far too many emails to handle).
-
- Tprobe is in daily use at my company for duplicating our software distributions
- and even for dup'ing dump tapes. It was supposed to be a one-time-only program
- just so I had a backup of the last SunOS for the 3/60, but ... :-)
