- This is a sticky one and I have seen it several times...

- Your HD icon is showing a standard document icon probably because you gave
- it a customized icon in System 7 and then either lost or deleted the
- invisible "icon" file that resided at the root level of your drive (the
- file in which the custom icon information was actually stored).

- As far as I know, there are only two fixes for this problem (though there
- may be others I am unaware of). 1) You could back up your files and
- reformat your drive. This is actually the easier of the two fixes. 2) You
- can back up your software and use your drive formatting software (either
- the apple formatter or which ever custom one you might have) to delete and
- recreate the driver partition on your HD. I have done this on an Apple
- formatted drive and it worked fine and I lost no data.
