- I happen to think that balloon help can be a very useful thing, especially
- in large, complex dialog boxes with lots of obscure settings. As an
- example from my own work, there is a dialog box item in my Kermit Tool's
- setup dialog labeled Type:. How is the novice supposed to interpret this?
- How am I supposed to convey the meaning of this box in 4 words or less?
- If balloon help is turn on, the user sees:
- default type:
- A four character token representing
- the incoming document's format.
- Examples:
- TEXT = text document
- GIFf = gif file
-
- If you do not happen to know what to enter use the "Set Document Type..."
- button.
-
- I am not even trying to say I did a good job, just that there are
- certain instances where having the balloon help can really help
- explain the arcane. BTW, if you want to see balloon help really doing
- its job, try setting up Eudora one of these days.
