  28. The IIci's built-in video shares Bank A of RAM with the operating 
  29. system.  Thus, if you're running the built-in video, operating
  30. system access to Bank A has to compete with the video subsystem, and
  31. is considerably slower than access to Bank B.  Additionally, Bank A
  32. is used *before* Bank B, so the first applications you run get
  33. loaded into Bank A until it fills up, and only then is Bank B used
  34. (turning virtual memory on confuses things somewhat, so you can't
  35. tell what gets loaded where).  Hence, if you have lots of RAM in
  36. Bank A, most of your apps will load there and you'll take a
  37. performance hit.  It's best to leave four 256K SIMMs in Bank A and
  38. replace the four 1MB SIMMs in Bank B with 4MB SIMMs, rather than put   
  39. 1MB SIMMs in Bank A.  If you buy a video card and don't use the
  40. built-in video, this problem goes away.
