- FIRST WINDOWS NT APPLICATIONS DEMONSTRATED
- ON DIGITAL'S ALPHA AXP COMPUTERS
-
-
- LAS VEGAS, NV -- November 16, 1992 -- Visitors to COMDEX/Fall
- witnessed demonstrations of the first applications running on
- Digital Equipment Corporation's Alpha AXP personal computers with
- the Microsoft Windows NT operating system. More than a dozen
- application providers demonstrated their software in the Digital and
- Microsoft booths.
-
- "We are pleased that application providers are able to convert
- their software to our Alpha AXP systems so quickly," said Jesse
- Lipcon, vice-president of Digital's entry systems business group.
- "That these applications were up-and-running so quickly--several in
- just a few hours--is a tribute to the consistency of the Windows NT
- operating system across platforms."
-
- "Microsoft and Digital are making great progress in moving
- Windows NT to the Alpha AXP platform," said Paul Maritz, senior vice
- president of Microsoft's systems division. "The vendors
- demonstrating their Windows NT applications today on Alpha AXP PCs
- completed their ports in less than three days. Digital is taking a
- leadership role in defining the next generation of PCs. Because of
- its performance, we expect the Alpha AXP personal computer to be a
- key platform for Windows NT."
-
- The Alpha AXP system demonstrated by each of the software
- providers is an Advanced Technology Display of the first member of
- Digital's family of Alpha AXP personal computer systems, which
- incorporates Digital's 21064 microprocessor. The Guinness Book of
- World Records has ranked the microprocessor as the "world's
- fastest," and it is the fastest single-processor machine capable of
- running Windows NT software.
