- From: "D. Glen McPherson" <mcphers@HILBERT.MATHS.UTAS.EDU.AU>
- Subject: Essential book list
- Lines: 250
-
- Below is the first presentation of an edited list of books which have been
- suggested by members.
-
- Rather than attempting to check every entry myself, I am publishing the
- list in the hope that members will point to any errors and will fill in
- gaps. If there is support, this list could serve as the nucleus of a list
- that could be periodically updated. I am prepared to maintain the list if
- members are willing to provide updates, corrections, etc.
-
- In preparing the list, I have excluded many book suggestions which are
- highly specialized in coverage of methods of applications. My aim is to
- maintain a smallish collection of essential books for general application.
- If anyone feels unhappy with the exclusion of one of their favorite books,
- please let me know. Equally, if anyone feels that one or more books is not
- the best choice, or duplicates the contents of another book, please
- present an argument for deleting one of the listings.
-
- Where comments have been offered, I have included them. Some comments are
- my own. It seems to me that informative comments are invaluable for those
- using the list to augment their libraries. I am particularly anxious to
- include comments which are accurate and informative. Please take the
- trouble to provide comments on the books in the list.
-
- I have attempted to provide a rough grouping of books. There may well be
- grounds for dispute about my groupings or the classifications of books
- into the groupings. Please feel free to offer your comments.
-
- There are some obvious areas which are not covered. I have listed some and
- would appreciate contributions from these areas. There must also be areas
- which I have missed. Please let me know.
-
- Areas not covered: Time Series analysis, Planning of investigations,
- Sampling.
