- Alas Winter has set in up here in Montana. I pulled the battery out of
- the Beemer ('73 R75/5 long frame) last weekend in preps for a long winter's
- nap. It was a good year of riding- damb near ten grand on the odometer. Went
- from Wyoming to Kansas City to Big Bend Park way down in Texas, out to the
- coast and back to Wyoming. Would have gone up the coastal highway if it
- weren't for the rain turning me back. OK wimpy you might say but consider this
- trip took place in late February and early March. Got to do quite a bit of
- quality riding around Jackson's Hole WY this summer as well- up through the
- parks, down through the back side of the Tetons via Driggs, ID; cruised the
- Winds around Lander and Pinedale, WY. Yep damn fine ridin' year.
- With the considerable down time forced on by the onset of winter I get
- plenty of chances for maintenance and repair. This year it's leaky seals and
- brakes, maybe new wheel bearings all around. Maybe some of you Beemer-files
- have seen this problem before: There is a vent cap on the final drive housing
- that continually oozes gear oil while I ride. I check the levels in the
- reservoirs and they remain full with the exception of the transmission, which
- may be burning it off. Is it possible for the tranny oil to flow all the way
- back to the rear differential housing and thus leak out the blow hole? Is this
- problem indicative of some urgent repair? Obviously I need to do something as
- the oil eventually ends up fouling up my tire. Very messy.

- G'Day eh. Beemer Mike
