- Here's the "Risk Factor Profile" I completed while I was on the fast.
- As is often claimed, obesity does not necessarily translate to "unhealthy"--in
- fact, when I finished my fast, my total score was -3 (where a plus score
- indicates a greater risk of heart disease and cancer and a negative indicates
- less risk) even though I received +12 points for still being well over my
- ideal weight (I was around 180 at the time).
-
- According to this, average score for men is +25 and for women is +22. And yes,
- the implication is that our current lifestyles imply a greater risk for
- heart disease and cancer than could be otherwise predicted.
-
- Below I have listed all the risk factors on the chart, the desired rate,
- the average for women, and the average for men. Other factors that don't
- appear below include the family health history and other factors
- affecting your personal health.
-
- Average Average
- Factor Goal Woman Man

- Tot Chol/HDL 4-4.5 4-4.4 4-4.5
- Triglycerides 100-149 60-99 100-149
- Systolic BP <120 120-139 120-139
- Diastolic BP 70-79 80-89 80-89
- % over ideal
- body weight 5 25 20

- calories/week
- of activity 1500 (men) 350 450

- 3 servings of
- fruits&vegs 6 days/week 1-3 1-3
- anger/stress sometimes sometimes sometimes
- seatbelts almost always sometimes sometimes
-
- Keep in mind that this loses a bit in the translation (i.e., you don't
- see the overall range--for example, you get -4 points if you've never
- smoked, and +10 for 3 packs a day).
-
- However, the "average" man or woman listed above has a greater risk of
- heart disease or cancer, hence their "goal" recommendations.
