- Again, I have a comment on the consensus of the net on a particular
- character. This time it's on Balrog. The consensus is that Balrog does
- poorly against characters w/ missile attacks. In the case of Sagat and
- Guile, I do agree with this, but I'm not so sure about Ken,Ryu and
- Dhalsim. In general, I do well against these characters. Dhalsim does
- too little damage, so I'm often able to just get a few licks in compared
- to his many and still end with more energy. With Ken/Ryu I use the
- standing fierce a lot to exchange damage if they try to fireball too
- close to me (the distancing on this is VERY important). Of course,
- every now and then they DP my arm, but they have to guess to do it. If
- they guess wrong I get a free hit in (Balrog's standing fierce is
- LONG!). And Balrog can inflict more damage in general(aside from a
- well-timed DP and Ken's ridiculous combos) than either Ken or Ryu. He
- also has a few good combos as well. Ryu's hurricane kick does pose a
- bit of the problem, since I don't have a surefire counter to it. I used
- to think blocking and headbutting worked every time, but I've gotten
- thrown instead a few times. I've seen crouching fierce work once,
- though I haven't gotten a chance to try it out. Anyway, my point is
- that Balrog isn't that hopeless a character to use against missile
- wielding characters (except for Sagat and Guile - 3/5 ain't bad).
